What does a Data Engineer do at Accenture?
As a Data Engineer, I am responsible for collecting, storing, and managing data. I then process and clean this raw data to make it suitable for analysis. With these insights, I translate complex data into insights, enabling clients to make strategic decisions.
Here’s what a day in Caltha's life looks like!
8-9AM:
When I have an office day, I usually go by car. It's a 40-minute drive from where I live and when driving, I listen to a podcast. I am currently listening to the Office Ladies podcast, where they break down each episode of my favorite TV show The Office!
9-10AM:
The first thing I do when I arrive at the office is order a latte to start my day properly. After that, I check my inbox and Teams and answer some emails and messages before I make my daily to-do list.
10AM-12PM:
We have a daily stand-up meeting with the team, where we update each other on our progress and share what we will be working on today. Today, I will be working on data cleansing and the ETL process.
12-1PM:
Lunch time! Most of the time I bring my own lunch to the office, but today I decided to buy a warm meal at our canteen. Our canteen offers delicious and affordable warm meals, which makes it very ideal! I meet up with my colleagues to have lunch together, and afterwards, we take a walk around the office and enjoy the fresh air!
1-2:30PM:
After our short walk, I continue working on the data cleansing tasks. When I finish, I let the team know by updating the Kanban board. The board is like a to-do list where every member of our team has access to it. I update my task from "In Progress" to "Done". Now, I will be working on the ETL process.
2:30-3PM:
Around 2:30 PM, I meet up with a colleague to catch up and have coffee together. We haven't seen each other in a while, so it was very nice to see and talk to her again!
3-4PM:
Meeting time! We have a meeting with another team to align some business processes for the data migration that is coming up.
4-5PM:
As a result of the meeting, I have to adjust some of my work that I have been working on for the past week. Fortunately, these were some minor adjustments, and I could finish them quickly.
5-5:30PM:
I am finishing my day by rounding up my last task and updating our Kanban board. I said goodbyes to my colleagues and I log out from my laptop.
5:30-6:30PM:
Time to drive back home! Around this time it's very busy on the road, so it takes me an hour to go back home. Fortunately, the traffic was not as bad as expected, so I arrived a bit early! When driving back home, I always call my boyfriend to unwind mine and his day.
6:30-8PM:
I start cooking and today, I am eating stir-fry udon, which is my go-to meal when I am in a hurry. After having dinner, I go to a hot yoga class and that is how I end my day!
How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I either go to hot yoga or pilates, or watch a comfort TV show!
What do you love about your job and your employer?
I like that I have the flexibility to work on projects across different industries, so that I can ensure myself that there's always something new to learn. What I also like about Accenture is that the workplace is filled with people from diverse cultures, which fosters an inclusive work environment!
