What does an Azure Data Engineer do at Van Lanschot Kempen?
My role involves extracting data from various sources and making it available for users. Daily tasks include automating manual tasks for efficiency, resolving pipeline issues for smooth operations, and maintaining data integrity by investigating and resolving data issues.
Here’s what a day in Joy's life looks like!
Morning:
- 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: I start my day with a meeting with my team. We catch up and talk about what we did over the weekend! After that, we each discuss the progress or completion of the tasks we are working on, as well as any challenges we may be facing. Fun fact: you don't get stuck, you will get the help you need! Then we get some coffee. After which, we join the departmental meeting where each team provides a summary of what they have been working on the past week. Internal news is also shared during this time. Some days, we have some snacks - whispers - indicates it's someone's birthday!
- 11:00 AM - 12:00 AM: Focus time!
Afternoon:
- 12:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Lunch time: I usually have lunch with my team at the company's restaurant. Afterward, we sometimes go for a walk. On occasion, I have lunch with two or three colleagues who might be from a different team or department. Our company has an app that matches you with three random colleagues, offering a fantastic opportunity to meet and get to know each other better.
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: More focus time! Sometimes, I pair with a colleague on a particular task. Pairing is quite helpful as it helps to broaden my perspective on how to solve problems and it is also a chance to learn something new from a colleague.
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: I wrap up for the day. Taking stock on tasks I have completed and what still needs to be done the next work day.
Evening:
- 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM: I leave for home. I take this time to enjoy the scenery.
How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I unwind by listening to songs, watching reality shows or a movie.
What do you love about your job and your employer?
I love my job because I get to do interesting and challenging work that results in making data available to users. I also love that I work in a collaborative team. I love that Van Lanschot Kempen provides a happy and comfortable environment, with great perks.
