Name: Karen
Job: Senior Data Consultant at Artefact
What do you do in your role?
In my role as a Senior Data Consultant at Artefact, I work with clients to transform data into real business impact across their entire organisation. My work spans the full project lifecycle, from digging into what a client truly needs, all the way to delivering concrete, measurable results. I take ownership of project delivery, coordinating across a broad range of profiles, and making sure everything lands on time and at quality.
Here's what a day in Karen's life looks like!
8-9 AM:
I start the day heading straight to the client's office. On my current project, I'm there at least twice a week. Once I arrive, I grab a coffee, catch up with colleagues as they filter in, and take a few minutes to write down my top priorities for the day. A simple ritual, but it helps to structure the day.
9-10 AM:
The first meetings kick off. We start with an internal standup to align on yesterday's progress and today's priorities, then move into a delivery sync with the client. We do these twice a week to keep things moving. Today there's an important sign-off meeting in the afternoon, so I use this touchpoint to make sure we're aligned and any open tasks are accounted for.
10-11 AM:
Headphones on, focus mode. The client has asked for leadership slides to present in the coming weeks, so I get into the zone and start making progress on the slides.
11 AM-12 PM:
Still in focus mode, working towards the goal I set myself this morning. A second coffee usually makes an appearance around this time too.
12-1 PM:
Lunch with my project colleagues at the client's cafeteria for a yummy meal. We tend to leave the work talk aside and use the time to catch up on each other's lives and weekend plans. It's a good way to properly switch off for a bit.
1-2 PM:
Time to prepare for the afternoon sign-off session. I go through the deliverables, make sure everything is polished, and get ready to walk the client through it.
2-3 PM:
I present the deliverables to the client and collect their feedback. We discuss what to incorporate, check in on progress, and flag any blockers. Luckily, the project is running really well right now, which always makes these sessions energizing rather than stressful.
3-4 PM:
I structure the feedback into clear action points and assign ownership across the team. Then I get straight to work on my own outstanding tasks, keeping timelines tight means not letting things sit.
4-5 PM:
After a quick check-in with my team member, I shift to my mandate. At Artefact, every consultant dedicates time to something beyond project work. I chose to launch and lead Women@Artefact, an internal initiative focused on building an empowering and inclusive workplace. Today I'm brainstorming with one of the initiative members on new events we can launch this year. Exciting things are coming!
5-6 PM:
I wrap up the brainstorming session, finish off my remaining priorities, and handle a few more project management tasks: setting up meetings, booking rooms, and preparing the weekly client update. Then I head out with a colleague, as it's time for our pilates class. Best way to end the day!
How do you unwind at the end of a workday?
After work, I love meeting up with friends in the city or heading to a workout class with colleagues who have become friends along the way. It's the perfect way to switch off and recharge.
What do you love about your job and your employer?
What I love most is that the role sits right at the crossroads of business, strategy, and technology, so there's always something new to learn. Every project brings different challenges and new learnings. But what makes it even better is that there's also space to drive initiatives that matter to me personally, beyond the project work. No two days look the same, which is exactly what keeps me energized.
